ODENSE – The grandfather came by royal ship. The grandson came to a wall of photographs, and found the grandfather waiting there. On Friday, October 30, King Frederik X was guest of honour at the annual celebration of the University of Southern Denmark, exactly sixty years after Frederik IX sailed in aboard the Royal Ship Dannebrog to inaugurate Denmark’s third university in September 1966, with Queen Ingrid and the then Princess Margrethe beside him.

Start with the founding number: 180. That is how many students Odense University had when it opened in 1966, its inauguration staged in the ceremonial hall of Odense Teknikum. The institution Frederik honoured on Friday, renamed the University of Southern Denmark, is a regional powerhouse by comparison, and the anniversary measured sixty years of Danish ambition in a single comparison. During the celebration the year’s honorary doctors and doctors were promoted, and the university handed out its Innovation Prize, Teaching Prize and Research Communication Prize.

The rector gave the day its image by showing the King a photo wall of the 1966 inauguration, the ceremony attended by his grandfather, his grandmother and his mother. Koenig Frederik in Odense: 60 Jahre nach Grossvaters Ankunft per Koenigsschiff

ODENSE – Was fuer ein Wiedersehen mit der eigenen Geschichte! Koenig Frederik X. war am Freitag Ehrengast bei der Jahresfeier der Syddansk Universitet, der Universitaet von Sueddaenemark, und das exakt 60 Jahre, nachdem sein Grossvater Frederik IX. im September 1966 mit dem Koenigsschiff Dannebrog angereist war, um Daenemarks dritte Universitaet feierlich zu eroeffnen. An seiner Seite damals: Koenigin Ingrid und Prinzessin Margrethe.

Die Zahl zum Staunen: 180 Studierende zaehlte die Universitaet Odense bei ihrer Eroeffnung 1966, gefeiert in der Festhalle des Odense Teknikum. Heute ist daraus eine grosse regionale Universitaet geworden. Bei der Jahresfeier wurden die Ehrendoktoren und Doktoren des Jahres ernannt, und die Universitaet vergab unter anderem den Innovationspreis, den Lehrpreis und den Preis fuer Forschungs-vermittlung.

Der schoenste Moment gehoerte einer Fotowand. Der Rektor zeigte dem Koenig Bilder von der Eroeffnung 1966, mit Grossvater, Grossmutter und seiner Mutter darauf. Das Foto des Tages zeigt Frederik lachend davor, dunkler Anzug, dunkelrote Krawatte, hinter ihm das Daenemark von 1966 in Schwarz-Weiss, samt neuer Studierender am Eroeffnungstag. Kontinuitaet kann man erklaeren, oder man stellt den Enkel vor die Bilder des Grossvaters und laesst das Foto sprechen.

Es war die zweite Odense Geschichte des Tages: Koenigin Mary sprach am selben Freitag vor 2.800 Schulleitern fuer ihre Stiftung. Bildung von der Schule bis zur Doktorfeier, das war die Woche des daenischen Koenigspaares. Mehr als 4.500 Likes sammelte der Beitrag des Hofes in wenigen Stunden. Sechzig Jahre, drei Generationen, eine Universitaet, die mit 180 Studierenden begann: Frederik stand laechelnd vor dem Beweis, und schoener kann ein Jubilaeum kaum aussehen.
