Seven Young Guests at the Palace: Crown Princess Ingrid Alexandra Receives Operasjon Dagsverk, SAIH and Equal Education in Oslo

On 28 October 2026, Crown Princess Ingrid Alexandra received representatives of Operasjon Dagsverk in audience at the Royal Palace in Oslo, the Norwegian Royal House reported on its Instagram account @detnorskekongehus. Present were the leader of Operasjon Dagsverk, SAIH, Norwegian People’s Aid Solidarity Youth and the South African student organisation Equal Education.

A Story by Award Winning Managing Editor His Highness Dr. Prince Mario-Max zu Schaumburg-Lippe.

The official photograph tells the morning in one frame. Seven young people stand in a gilded palace room with marble columns and gold-trimmed doors, and the Crown Princess, in a dark navy outfit with wide-leg trousers, smiles from the very centre of the line. To her left, a guest wears a white T-shirt with red trim and two vertical words that sum up the entire visit: solidarity not charity. To her right, a sweatshirt reads Los Angeles. On the far left, a long red dress with white spots brings the colour. Nobody looks stiff. Everybody looks pleased to be exactly there.

A School Campaign With a 1964 Birth Year

Operasjon Dagsverk, Operation Day’s Work, was first held in 1964 and is administered by the School Student Union of Norway. Each autumn, during International Week in mid-October, schools study global issues such as poverty, inequality and development. Then students go out, work a real day, and donate their earnings to the year’s education project. It is the largest youth campaign in Norway, with more than 4,000 volunteers, and its projects have supported education in more than 60 countries in Asia, Africa and Latin America over the decades.

Equal Education, the South African guest in the room, is a grassroots organisation fighting for equal, quality education at home, and a partner of SAIH, the Norwegian Students‘ and Academics‘ International Assistance Fund. Add Norwegian People’s Aid Solidarity Youth, and the audience becomes a summit of student solidarity in three accents: Norwegian school pupils, Norwegian students and academics, and South African education campaigners, all received by a Crown Princess of their own generation.

The week gives the visit its frame. Oslo readers have just followed King Haakon’s candlelit Storting dinner at the Palace, with Queen Sonja and the Crown Princess at a 120-year-old table, and before it the King knocking on doors on Kvitsoy with a collection bucket for TV-aksjonen. Gala host one day, doorstep volunteer the next, and now the Crown Princess receiving the country’s young organisers: service, in this family, clearly runs at every dress code.

The online response was instant, more than 8,000 likes in the first hours. Our conclusion is warm. A campaign old enough to have been joined by the grandparents of today’s pupils walked into the Palace on 28 October, written across a T-shirt, and the future queen stood in the middle of its representatives like one of the team. That is not charity. That is solidarity, photographed.

Bravo, Oslo!
