New York’s most famous dance classroom is going on the road. Francis J. Roach, owner and Artistic Director of Luigi’s Jazz Centre, brings „Jazz Dance Back in Hollywood“ to Los Angeles for a 3-day intensive from Friday, February 5 to Sunday, February 7, 2027, at Studio A Dance, 2306 Hyperion Ave. – and dancers on the West Coast are getting a master who learned from the legend himself.

A Story by Award Winning Managing Editor His Highness Dr. Prince Mario-Max zu Schaumburg-Lippe.

Roach studied directly with Luigi for 38 years. That is not a workshop weekend or a summer course; that is a life spent inside one technique, absorbing it the way it was created. Today he travels the world teaching Luigi’s legacy, and he assisted Luigi on a tour with Liza Minnelli, one of the many stars the Luigi classroom shaped.

Luigi, born Eugene Louis Faccuito, created the world’s first jazz dance technique. Gene Kelly gave him his nickname on the set of On the Town in 1949, and his students went on to define American dance and screen: Alvin Ailey, Twyla Tharp, Donna McKechnie, Jane Fonda, John Travolta and Liza Minnelli. His motto, „Never stop moving,“ still hangs over every class.

The Los Angeles weekend is a true homecoming. Luigi opened his first school in Los Angeles in 1950, before founding his Manhattan school in 1957. The New York legend started in California sunshine, and in February 2027 it returns, taught by the man Luigi trusted with his classroom. This paper loves a Hollywood stage moment – we recently flagged a Hollywood international talent show lighting up a weekend, and we covered a queen opening a masters‘ exhibition in Malaga. Roach in Los Angeles belongs in that company: a custodian carrying a master’s work into the room where it began.

What can dancers expect? Three days of the real works, taught the real way: the famous warm-up, the long lines, the placement and musicality that made the technique a passport to Broadway stages and film sets. Roach’s own choreography credits include Broadway benefits at the Richard Rogers Theatre, so the weekend teaches stagecraft alongside steps.

The details are simple. February 5, 6 and 7, 2027 at Studio A Dance, 2306 Hyperion Ave., Los Angeles, CA 90027. Registration runs through the QR code on the flyer, which opens the registration form and the complete daily schedule. Questions: intensive@luigijazz.com. Los Angeles, warm up: the legend is coming home.

JAZZ DANCE ZURÜCK IN HOLLYWOOD: FRANCIS J. ROACH BRINGT LUIGIS NEW YORKER LEGENDE NACH LOS ANGELES!

Was für ein Tanz-Wochenende! Francis J. Roach, Inhaber und Artistic Director des weltberühmten Luigi’s Jazz Centre in New York City, verlegt sein Studio für drei Tage nach Hollywood: „Jazz Dance Back in Hollywood“ heißt der Intensivkurs vom Freitag, 5. Februar, bis Sonntag, 7. Februar 2027, im Studio A Dance, 2306 Hyperion Ave. in Los Angeles.

Gene Kelly gab ihm 1949 am Set von „On the Town“ seinen Spitznamen.

Fragen an intensive@luigijazz.com. Los Angeles, Tanzschuhe an: Die Legende kommt nach Hause!
