President Mohamed Irfaan Ali of Guyana Receives 2026 World Harmony Distinguished Leadership Award in New York

Präsident Mohamed Irfaan Ali erhält in New York den 2026 World Harmony Distinguished Leadership Award von den WHF-Jugendbotschaftern Joseph Liu und Shoshana Moe Khan.

New York witnessed a moment of genuine celebration during the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly on September 24, 2026, when the World Harmony Foundation, under the leadership of its president, Frank Fan Liu, formally presented H.E. Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali, President of the Co-operative Republic of Guyana, with the 2026 World Harmony Distinguished Leadership Award, in recognition of his distinguished leadership in peaceful development and ecological protection.

A Story by Award Winning Managing Editor His Highness Dr. Prince Mario-Max zu Schaumburg-Lippe.

The award was presented on behalf of the World Harmony Foundation by two youth goodwill ambassadors, Miss Shoshana Moe Khan and 12-year-old Joseph Liu. Together they handed President Ali the World Harmony Award trophy and a commemorative medal, in a ceremony that put the next generation quite literally at the heart of the occasion. It was a simple, powerful image: a head of state honored not by officials in a closed room, but by young ambassadors carrying a message of peace and care for the planet.

Joseph Liu serves as a WHF Junior Ambassador, a Junior Harmony Ambassador for „Harmony for Peace,“ and as Secretary-General of the Middle School Committee of the U.S.-based Youth Leaders Development Organization. Speaking for that mission, he said: „We must always pass the mission of Harmony for Peace and Harmony for Eco-Protection on to the next generation.“ Those words set the tone for the entire presentation, linking the honor for President Ali directly to the young people who will inherit the world leaders are shaping today.

The foundation works under the motto „Harmony for Peace + Harmony for Eco-Protection.“ Its message is clear and constructive: replace conflict with dialogue, advance development through cooperation, promote peace through harmony, and protect our shared planet through ecological conservation and restoration. It also champions biodiversity conservation and a harmonious coexistence between humanity and nature, themes that run through its work at the United Nations and far beyond, much like the international spirit Zeitblatt readers saw in coverage of advancing the future through the UN ageing agenda.

In its citation, the foundation recognized Guyana’s positive contributions under President Ali in advancing harmony for peace, environmental protection, green development, and harmonious coexistence between humanity and nature, calling it a constructive example for countries seeking peace and sustainable development. Under President Ali, Guyana has pursued economic development from its natural resources while placing real emphasis on forest conservation, biodiversity, low-carbon development and sustainable development. That balance, growth paired with protection, is exactly what the award was created to celebrate, and it is why the honor resonated so strongly during a week when the whole world gathers in New York, a city that continues to welcome global guests, as in New York City 2027: A Prince Welcomes the World to His City.

The foundation also expressed its hope that the award will promote broader cooperation between Guyana and the international community in world peace, environmental protection, biodiversity, youth development, the green economy and sustainable development. Awards like this one matter because they turn shared values into working relationships, a spirit also reflected in recent honors in the city covered by Zeitblatt, including a Global Hero Award presented at the Harvard Club.

The presentation to President Ali was part of a remarkable week of World Harmony Foundation honors during the General Assembly. Bryant McKinnie, the prominent American football star, received the Distinguished Leadership Award for Sports Promoting Peace at the WHF Celebrity Red Carpet Awards & Cocktail Reception, presented jointly by Joseph Liu and Monica Sanchez, WHF Senior Advisor and United Nations Goodwill Ambassador, in recognition of his contributions through sports to world peace, harmony among nations, environmental protection, multicultural understanding and public-interest causes. Monica Sanchez also met President Ali and the First Lady of Guyana during the 81st Session of the General Assembly.

Ambassador Royer Porras Zambrano likewise received a World Harmony Award during the UN 80th Anniversary celebration. Prince Mario-Max Schaumburg-Lippe attended that UN 80th Anniversary awards celebration together with WHF Vice Chair Gloria Cress, underscoring how closely the harmony community gathered in New York this season.

Culture played its own beautiful part in the celebrations. For the UN 80th Anniversary, a public-interest porcelain art exhibition used Jingdezhen porcelain to present themes of peace and harmony, with 193 head-of-state porcelain vases and 80 commemorative vases. The portraits were painted by renowned portrait artist Peng Zhaoguang, and the project was funded and donated by philanthropist Wu Xiaoping, WHF Vice Chair for China. Wu Xiaoping and Peng Zhaoguang are both WHF award recipients from the UN 80th Anniversary celebration, and one of the vases honors President Ali himself.

President Ali now joins a distinguished list of earlier honorees. In 2024, H.E. Julius Maada Bio, President of Sierra Leone, received the World Harmony Distinguished Contribution Award. Over the years the foundation has also honored conservationist and scientist Jane Goodall, former Prime Minister of Japan Yukio Hatoyama, veteran U.S. Congressman Lester Wolff, American music group Sister Sledge, and former U.S. Representative Carolyn Maloney, among many others. The foundation led by its president, Frank Fan Liu, has built that record by keeping its focus steady: peace, dialogue, cooperation and the protection of nature.

Readers can watch the World Harmony Foundation public-interest video here: watch the video on YouTube. The release closed with lines that sum up the whole occasion, and they are worth repeating in full: „Protecting Nature is Protecting Our Common Future.“ And for Guyana, one more wish: „May peace and harmony forever flourish in Guyana!“

GROSSE EHRE IN NEW YORK! Präsident Ali erhält den World Harmony Preis – Jugendbotschafter überreichen Pokal und Medaille!

Was für ein Moment in New York!
