World’s biggest freerunning event to take over an entire Greek Island.

The world’s biggest freerunning competition, Red Bull Art of Motion, returns for 2022 with athletes from across the globe competing in a beautiful new home on the Greek island of Astypalea, located in the Dodecanese islands.

– From today, April 11, two wild card spots are up for grabs as online qualifiers open for up-and-coming freerunners who will have the chance to compete in the picturesque destination.

– The qualifying entries will flip, climb and jump over ancient castles, windmills and rooftops against the backdrop of breathtaking scenery, as they take their place among sporting legends including Stefan Dollinger, Dominic Di Tommaso and Hazal Nehir.

– Last year’s online qualifiers received entries from over 50 countries and included Krystian Kowalewski from Poland and Noa Diorgina from the Netherlands – who went on to win the men’s and women’s competitions respectively in 2021.

– French freerunner, Lilou Ruel, winner of Best Trick at last year’s event said: “The island is so amazing for freerunning. There are spots everywhere. Every rooftop, every tree. For me, the new format this year is much more about enjoying myself and surpassing myself physically and mentally. We’re lucky to have such a great community, it’s about having fun, training together and learning from each other.”

– Art of Motion 2021 champion Kowalewski said: “The parkour community is so welcoming. Every time I get to meet my friends at one of these events, I just feel like I’m learning so much. For anyone submitting to the online qualifiers, it’s important to think about all the criteria, not just flow, not just hard tricks. All of them are important.”

– To have the chance of being crowned Red Bull Art of Motion champion, athletes simply need to upload their best freerunning video to YouTube and submit via the form at before May 10, 2022.

How to take part in the online qualifiers:

  • Create a video of your best run that is no longer than 60 seconds
  • Only the runner should be visible and performing in the video and the face of the participant must be visible throughout
  • All scenes must to be filmed outdoors, no mats are allowed, and all landings must be visible
  • All videos must be uploaded to YouTube and submitted via site before May 10 to be in with a chance of selection.

This year’s Red Bull Art of Motion will be the ninth edition of the flagship freerunning competition, and will take place over the course of three days. Find out more at
