Satellite Cellphones – Emergency SOS When There Is No Signal
Praying for Florida! Many phones nowadays have a satellite connection built into the little device – please look into your phone menu for Emergency SOS. You or your neighbor with a newer iPhone might have that free feature up and running if needed.
A Story by Award Winning Managing Editor His Highness Dr. Prince Mario-Max zu Schaumburg-Lippe.
Coming from a high-tech old royal family – his grandfather Dr. h.c. Carl Hermann Roderbourg founded the VARTA Battery Empire in Europe, the batteries that are in every BMW, together with BMW owner Quandt – Prince Mario-Max investigated the modern satellite communication methods for his readers.
Built-In Satellite Connectivity and Dedicated Devices
iPhone 14 and later models have built-in satellite connectivity that lets you send emergency SOS messages via satellite when you are outside cellular and Wi-Fi coverage: try calling or texting emergency services, and if there is no coverage, the „Emergency SOS via satellite“ option appears – follow the onscreen instructions to connect and send a message to an emergency dispatch center. Some newer Android phones, like the Motorola Defy 2, have the integrated Bullitt Satellite Messenger, which offers similar functionality and two-way messaging via satellite, with a subscription.
Dedicated devices go further: satellite messengers like the Garmin inReach Mini 2, ACR Bivy Stick and Spot X connect to your phone via Bluetooth for messaging and SOS, while satellite hotspots like the Iridium GO! create a satellite Wi-Fi hotspot for voice calls, texts and email – a more expensive option. Important things to keep in mind: satellite connections require a clear view of the sky, most services require a subscription, connections are typically slower and less reliable than cellular or Wi-Fi, and when using satellite for emergency services, be prepared to provide your location and a brief description of the emergency. Satellite communication should be reserved for situations where you have no coverage and need to contact emergency services or loved ones.
