He smiles straight into the camera and says the words every young pilgrim wanted to hear: „I warmly invite each of you to Seoul.“ Pope Leo XIV posted that short video on his official @pontifex Instagram account on Thursday morning, 22 October, and with it he opened registrations for the next World Youth Day – the moment the great gathering stops being a date on a calendar and becomes a journey that young people can actually start planning.

The caption carried his invitation in four languages at once – Portuguese, Spanish, Italian and French – for the account’s 14.5 million followers, and the response was instant: more than 37,700 likes and some 550 comments within the first hours. „My dear young friends,“ the Pope says, „today, with the opening of registrations for the next World Youth Day, I invite with all my heart each and every one of you to Seoul.“ He calls it „a pilgrimage of faith, friendship and hope,“ promises that the Lord „calls each of you by name and wishes to reawaken your hope and give you fullness of life and joy,“ and ends with a grin you can hear: „I look forward to seeing you in Seoul!“
What makes the little reel so effective is its simplicity. There is no stage, no crowd shot, no ceremony – just the Pope in his white cassock in front of a golden religious painting, talking to young people the way he might talk to them in a room. That directness is the signature of his @pontifex account, the same warmth readers saw in A Wave From the Popemobile, when a family photograph carried his message about marriage and society. This time the photograph is a face, and the message is an invitation with a deadline attached: registrations are open, groups will form, and the long, happy work of fundraising, saving and preparing begins now in parishes and schools on every continent.
Seoul gives the story its sparkle. The South Korean capital is a city young people across the world already feel they know – through its music, its series and its technology – and it is home to an energetic young church ready to welcome pilgrims from everywhere. For the young travellers, that means a double discovery: a famous city met through a living community, and friendships built across the whole map, exactly as the Pope’s three words promise. Faith, friendship and hope are not a slogan here. They are an itinerary, and as of Thursday morning, anyone can sign up for it.
Was fuer ein Auftritt!
