YAOUNDE – What a picture! Prince Albert II of Monaco is kneeling on a red carpet in Yaounde, Cameroon, surrounded on every side by children, and he is smiling like a man who would not want to be anywhere else in the world. The Prince’s Palace reported the visit on Sunday, November 1, 2026. Twenty-three years after his first visit, the Sovereign returned to Cameroon for a 24-hour stop, and the highlight was the Centre Edimar Princesse Grace, a centre for children and young people supported by Monaco Aide et Presence, MAP.
A Story by Award Winning Managing Editor His Highness Dr. Prince Mario-Max zu Schaumburg-Lippe.
Look at the photograph properly, because it rewards it. The Prince is not in a suit this time. He wears a white polo shirt with the MAP logo, kneeling down at the children’s own height. Next to him a boy in a green and yellow shirt, blue trousers, a water bottle in his hand. On the other side a boy in white who cannot stop grinning. Above their heads, bunting runs the length of the courtyard, Cameroon flags and Monaco flags taking turns on the same string, and red and white flower garlands decorate the balcony behind. One flag line, two countries – the whole visit in a single decoration.

The centre, the palace explains, looks after children and young people in vulnerable situations day after day, through education, care, training and a path into working life. Its name honours Princess Grace, and in Yaounde that name is not on a gala programme. It is on a working centre, with children in white centre T-shirts crowding in for a group photograph on a red carpet that someone has unrolled for the occasion.
The welcome was not left to chance. The centre’s leaders received the Sovereign, the children surrounded him, and then came the moment the palace itself calls particularly moving – a show of songs and dances prepared by the young beneficiaries. Two days of protocol cannot buy a picture like that. Children perform like that when a place is theirs and they are proud of it.
It is the third scene of the same story in a single week. In Madagascar, flags went up in Antananarivo as Albert met the children of Sandratra, and before that 12,000 children sang as Albert opened a college bearing his name. A college opening, a youth project, and now a centre in Yaounde – the pattern is unmistakable, and it is children every time.
There were institutional meetings in Yaounde too, and exchanges on cooperation between Monaco and Cameroon, and those matter in their place. But ask anyone at the Centre Edimar what the day was about and they will not mention a meeting. They will talk about a prince who knelt down on their carpet, watched their show, and stayed in the middle of the crowd until every child was in the photograph. The palace summed the visit up as solidarity, hope and sharing. The picture needs no summary at all.
YAUNDE – Was fuer ein Empfang! November 2026.
Kein Anzug, keine Krawatte.
