An apple in the north, a theatre night in the capital – and a whole month of royal work in between. In the early hours of Wednesday, November 4, 2026, the Imperial Household Agency published two matching albums on @kunaicho_jp presenting the Akishino family’s October, and the lead pictures alone tell the story of Japan’s hardest-travelling royal household.
A Story by Award Winning Managing Editor His Highness Dr. Prince Mario-Max zu Schaumburg-Lippe.
The Agency’s caption simply presents the October activities of Crown Prince Akishino, Crown Princess Kiko and their family, and points readers to the schedule pages of its website. The first album opens on Monday, October 19, with Princess Kako at Hirosaki City Apple Park in Aomori Prefecture, holding a ripe red apple in both hands among the branches, smiling, in a brown jacket and red skirt – a photograph credited to Aomori Prefecture itself. It drew 17,748 likes. The second album opens on Thursday, October 1, with the Crown Prince and Crown Princess arriving at the opening performance of the 81st Agency for Cultural Affairs Arts Festival in Shibuya, Tokyo, Kiko radiant in a cream kimono with a richly patterned obi, in a photograph credited to the National Theatre. It drew 7,119 likes.
Apple orchard and festival stage, harvest and high culture – that is the Akishino job description in two frames. While the Emperor’s October belonged to the palace, this branch of the family spent its month on the road, and the Agency’s 2.51 million followers rewarded the diary with tens of thousands of likes within hours. Readers of our royal coverage will also enjoy the Mackage night on Madison Avenue and the story of Grandmother Feodora.
No ceremony, no announcement – just a family that treats October as a month to be spent out in its country. An apple in Aomori. A kimono in Shibuya. That is working royalty, Japanese style.
Was fuer ein royaler Arbeitsmonat!
