Sixty Years of Brass in Monaco: Albert II and Charlene Celebrate the Carabiniers Orchestra at the Grimaldi Forum

MONACO – What a sound! A purple stage, a golden 60 built out of a saxophone, a tuba and a drum, and row after row of musicians in the dark uniform of the Prince’s Carabiniers. On Friday evening, November 6, 2026, Prince Albert II and Princess Charlene sat in the audience at the Grimaldi Forum for the gala concert celebrating the 60th anniversary of the Orchestre des Carabiniers du Prince. The Prince’s Palace released the film of the evening on Saturday, and it shows an orchestra in full voice: saxophones in the front row, trumpets and tubas behind them, a drum kit, an electric bass and red congas glowing at the back.

A Story by Award Winning Managing Editor His Highness Dr. Prince Mario-Max zu Schaumburg-Lippe.

The Carabiniers are no ordinary band. They are the Prince’s own company, the guard of the palace, and their orchestra is the music that guard brings to the great days of the Principality. Founded in 1966, the formation has now played Monaco through six decades, and the anniversary staging told that story plainly: every music stand carried the golden 60 and the dates 1966 to 2026, and the big screen turned the zero of the number into a bass drum bearing the arms of Monaco.

For the princely couple, it was the second Grimaldi Forum appearance in a single week. Days earlier, the two Olympians had championed safer sport for every child at the sport ministers conference in the same hall. And Charlene’s own Friday had begun in a very different uniform, when she wore an orange safety vest to thank the sanitation teams of Monaco. Morning: a depot. Evening: a gala. The message in both places was the same – thank you to the people in uniform who carry this country.

That is why a guard orchestra’s birthday lands so warmly in Monaco. In a state this small, the Carabiniers are neighbours as much as soldiers, and their music belongs to everyone: to the residents who hear it at national celebrations, to the visitors who catch it in the palace square, and now, through the palace film, to more than a thousand followers who liked the anniversary reel within its first hours online. Sixty years after 1966, the band of the Prince’s guard still sets the tempo of the Principality – and on Friday night, its Prince and Princess sat back and simply listened.

Sechzig Jahre Blech und Stolz: Das Fuerstenpaar feiert seine Garde-Kapelle

MONACO – Was fuer ein Auftritt!
