FIS-Weltcup-Gesamttitelanwärter Marco Odermatt setzte seinen beeindruckenden Saisonstart mit dem Sieg im ersten Birds of Prey Super G-Rennen am Donnerstag in Beaver Creek fort.
Der Schweizer Star hatte in Sölden bereits einen Riesenslalom-Sieg zum Start in die neue FIS-Weltcup-Saison 2021/2022 geholt und sah wieder in einer anderen Klasse den furchterregenden amerikanischen Berg hinunter.
Odermatt war der siebte Fahrer auf der Strecke und holte sich mit einer Zeit von 1:08,61 die frühe Führung und hielt den Österreicher Matthias Mayer leicht um 0,78 Sekunden ab, um mit dem Kanadier Broderick Thompson einen Schock-Dritten zu gewinnen.
Es waren aufeinanderfolgende Super-G-Siege für Odermatt in Beaver Creek nach seinem Sieg im Jahr 2019, wobei der 24-Jährige bestrebt war, seinen zweiten Platz in der FIS-Weltcup-Super-G-Wertung 2020/2021 zu verbessern.

Odermatt sagte gegenüber AP: „Man musste in einigen Abschnitten angreifen und clever sein und die Kombination hat gut funktioniert. Es ist hier wie immer sehr schwierig. Man muss nur seinem Gefühl und seinem Skifahren vertrauen.“
Der Franzose Alexis Pinturault holte als Sechster 40 wertvolle Punkte für die Verteidigung seines FIS-Weltcup-Gesamttitels, während Loic Meillard aus der Schweiz nach einem frustrierenden Lauf auf Rang 33 zurückfiel.
Fünf der ersten 15 kamen nicht ins Ziel, darunter der FIS-Weltmeister-Super-G-Sieger 2019 Dominik Paris aus Italien und der FIS-Weltcup-Gesamtsieger 2019/2020 Aleksander Aamodt Kilde aus Norwegen.
Odermatt führt die FIS-Weltcup-Gesamtwertung mit 70 Punkten Vorsprung vor Mayer mit Pinturault als Siebter an, während er die vorzeitige Super-G-Führung vor dem zweiten Rennen im Resort am Freitag mit zwei Abfahrten am Samstag und Sonntag in einer Mammut-Aktionswoche übernimmt .

Swiss star eases to second win of new FIS World Cup season at Beaver Creek.
FIS World Cup overall title contender Marco Odermatt continued his impressive start to the season with victory in the first Birds of Prey Super G race at Beaver Creek on Thursday.
The Swiss star had already picked up a giant slalom victory at Soelden to start the new 2021/2022 FIS World Cup season and he looked in a different class again down the fearsome American mountain.
Odermatt was the seventh racer on the course and claimed the early lead with a time of 1:08.61 and easily held off Austrian Matthias Mayer by 0.78s to win with Canadian Broderick Thompson in a shock third.
It was back-to-back Super-G wins for Odermatt at Beaver Creek following his 2019 victory with the 24-year-old eager to improve on his second place in the 2020/2021 FIS World Cup Super-G standings.
Odermatt told AP: „You had to attack and be clever in some sections and the combination worked well. It’s really difficult here, as always. You just have to trust your feeling and your skiing.“
Frenchman Alexis Pinturault picked up 40 valuable points in sixth for the defence of his FIS World Cup overall title with Switzerland’s Loic Meillard down in 33rd after a frustrating run.
Five of the first 15 failed to finish including 2019 FIS World Championship Super G winner Dominik Paris of Italy and 2019/2020 FIS World Cup overall champion Aleksander Aamodt Kilde of Norway.
Odermatt leads the FIS World Cup overall standings by 70 points from Mayer with Pinturault in seventh, while he takes the early Super G lead heading into Friday’s second race at the resort with two downhills also planned on Saturday and Sunday in a mammoth week of action.
