Maison Margiela and Reebok announce the Zig CR: the newest trainer conceived through their ongoing creative dialogue. Released to stores on August 26th, 2022, the lace-less slip-on shoe fuses the grammar of mules and clogs through the classic language of sneakers. It will be available in triple white, triple black, and a graphic tricolour in black, white and red.
For the latest edition in Maison Margiela’s collaboration with Reebok, creative director John Galliano takes inspiration from the memory of vulcanised sports shoes, sandals and loafers from the 19th century, a study reflective of the passage-of-time motif central to the Spring-Summer 2022 Co-Ed Collection. The investigation transmutes with the robustly sculpted properties of the DMX trainers first launched by Reebok in 1997.
Set on an EVA sole with TPU inserts and a neoprene heel cap, the Zig CR features a flexible and durable TPU upper with a rubberised leather toe guard and a clam shell construction that folds in the middle. Cut-out details of founded in the technique of decortiqué – Maison Margiela’s term for reducing an object to its core structure through cutting – reveal the trainer’s authentic core.
