Exhausting the Dialogue, Igniting the Scene: Doom Scroll Unleash Their Dark, Theatrical Masterpiece Exhausted Dialogue

If you thought folk-punk was confined to acoustic guitars, whiskey-soaked porch jams, and weary protest anthems, Colorado’s Doom Scroll is here to tear that rulebook to shreds and light it on fire.

Out today via Flail Records (home to heavy hitters like Bridge City Sinners, Days N Daze, and Escape From The Zoo), Exhausted Dialogue is a sprawling, theatrical, and fiercely urgent 11-track triumph. It is the band’s first full-length effort since 2021’s Immoral Compass, and it proves that Doom Scroll aren’t just participating in the modern punk underground—they are expanding its structural limits entirely.

Gaming Terminology, Real-World Rage

The album’s title is pulled straight from video-game mechanics: the concept of „exhausting“ an NPC’s dialogue by repeatedly speaking to them until there is literally nothing left to say. For vocalist and guitarist Elliot Lozier, it’s a brilliant metaphor for modern political fatigue and personal burnout.

“Exhausted Dialogue is an album about internal and external struggle,” Lozier explains. “Rarely do we find any kind of reprieve when facing these struggles, and it felt like we were beating a dead horse by singing about these topics again and again.”

That raw, teeth-gritting frustration fuels blistering singles like “The Ravine,” the geopolitically critical “Zugzwang,” and the capitalist-dread anthem “Sisyphus.” Channeling the myth of Sisyphus into a modern „Groundhog Day“ loop of survival wages, the band captures the crushing monotony of contemporary existence with unmatched poetic bite.

Bedroom Production Meets Grammy-Winning Wizardry

What makes Exhausted Dialogue even more staggering is its DIY pedigree fused with stadium-sized punch. Lozier and guitarist Jon Pizarro tracked the entire album out of their own bedrooms, capturing an unbridled, visceral intensity. But to bring the cinematic scope home, the band enlisted Grammy Award-winning mixing and mastering engineer Jason Livermore—the mastermind behind legendary records by Propagandhi, NOFX, and The Suicide Machines.

The result? A dark, heavy, genre-bending hybrid. At its core, it beats with the frantic heart of folk-punk, but it is supercharged by theatrical elements of ska, pop-punk, and cinematic scores—complete with guest appearances from Ian Cook of Larry and His Flask.

A Dream Signing for Flail Records

For a band with a pedigree spanning underground royalty—featuring members of We the Heathens, Days N Daze, Atrocity Solution, and Dead Work—joining Flail Records feels like a match made in punk-rock heaven.

“Doom Scroll is a band that’s been on our radar for quite a while,” Flail Records shares. “When they sent us the new album and told us they were looking for a label, our eyes bulged out of their sockets like a cartoon frog… For years now they’ve been DIY touring like madmen, relentlessly writing and recording increasingly great records, and maintaining the type of creatively independent ethos that truly sets them apart.”
