Inspired by the fall of fashion icon “Little Edie” – Edith Bouvier Beale, the collection carries the melancholic harmony of a well-lived life and a reflecting message of what happens when people are forced out of their living spaces.

An American socialite whose life declined into eclectic isolation, forever defining her as a tragic heroine of an extinct age, a woman whose portrait fascinated the world: this is the complex and iconic figure whose essence can be seen in Reinke’s designs.

The collection features a strong color palette evoking the vibrance of her life, moving from orange to mustard yellow into blues and purples, finding harmony in the excess. In this collection, Reinke plays prominently with pattern, particularly animal prints and florals, to evoke a freshness and a life force that beats throughout—a chic new life blossoming amidst the aesthetic of the faded.

A mixing of luxe textiles emphasizes the playfulness of spirit and of fashion, while thoughtful tailoring is resonant with the careful construction that marks the German mentality and soul of this brand. Statement design elements like the puff pleat sleeve emphasize the youthful femininity of Little Edie’s heyday, while graphic checked fabrics present a strong yet accordant contrast, transporting the theme of loss.

Classic lines of feminine tailoring walk the line between the buttoned-up socialite and the innocent young girl gone astray. Pearl embroidery, a hallmark of the brand, resurfaces in this collection to impart a note of old world elegance, tulle is a signature component of the brand and the floral patterns a remnant of bygone splendor, their luster a glint of broken promise.

This season, Danny Reinke was joined by Skua, a Dutch label, that made shoes to complement the AW 2020 pieces. The garments themselves are all lovingly handmade from the highest quality materials in Reinke’s Berlin studio, ensuring a responsible method of production that is critical to the message of sustainability that is so important to the brand.

The collection also featured bags, purses and briefcases by FRAU FRIEDA. FALKE provided socks and hosiery.  Models by Modelwerk and scents by FRAU TONIS and special gratitude to CAUDALIE for their immense support.
