Marine Serre collection CORE

A collection born from a moment of reflection, captures the very essence of Marine Serre. Core seizes a moment of systemic revolution within the fashion industry – a forceful movement brought to life through a trinity of contrasting mediums.“This last year has been difficult for everyone, but there is no longer any question about it, things must be done differently. We want to bring Ecofuturism to the streets,” says Marine Serre.

Built on three equal pillars: the documentary, the book, and the ready-to-wear-collection encapsulate the transformation and regeneration that lies at the very heart of the brand’s aesthetic and ethic. Every shape and every fabric tell a story of creation and an endless reshaping and mutations into different embodiments – the ethos of Marine Serre is one of rebirth.

The book and the documentary tear open the flesh of the fashion house exposing honest and intimate parts of the creative and production process. While the book, printed in a limited edition, is a raw love letter, a keepsake to hold close, the film offers even deeper access to the world of Marine Serre. Consisting of two parts it begins by inviting the viewer to the ateliers, studios, and factories across Europe, it follows the transformation of regenerated fabrics and recycled yarns. In the second part, these materials are reborn and come to life in their final shape worn by muses, tribes, and friends of the house.

Every season the Ecofuturistic approach of Marine Serre evolves, strengthening the core values of environmental consciousness, resilience, and accessibility. For fall/winter 2021 the collection is composed by regenerated styles for its 50% consolidating the other half with products realized by using recycled fibres. Forceful steps are taken towards a new way of consuming fashion: the regenerated garments and accessories

of the White Line will be available at a reworked pricepoint making Ecofuturistic pieces accessible to a broader public. The documentary, book, and collection are all divided into the same twelve chapters following the creative expression of three years of creative work: Fleece bedcover, Leather, Moire, Silk Scarves, Denim, Tartan Scarves, T-shirt Patchworking, Carpets, Crazy Pullovers, Household Linen, Workwear, and Tailoring. Always an archaeologist of textile, Marine Serre’s passion for material plays a vital part in the collection, allowing hybrid garments to drape the body. With skilful reconstruction and patchwork techniques, the fabrics define and influence silhouettes.

Soft Fleece Bedcover smoothly wraps itself around the body morphing into a cocoon of comfort. The massive print takes on a more subtle air aided by the smoothness of the silhouette. Resistant Leather coats and trousers in dark black, lasered with the moon in a UV print are paired with brown pieces in a jigsaw pattern, executed with surgical precision.

details from the Marine Serre collection

Wavy Moire in soft lilac and black combine sporty with utilitarian silhouettes. Mini-skirts and silky puffer jackets mingle with playful accessories.

Hypnotic Silk Scarves glide around jersey bodies and fluid dresses. Lively colours blend and bold prints add depth to the fluid fabric. Authentic Denim adorned with the moon and tinted in vivid shades of red or dipped in deep, rich black give the iconic print a new air.

Deconstructed Tartan Scarves reminiscent of kilts and dripping with punk heritage are picked apart, scattered, and brought together into a single unity wrapped around the body in soft coils. Twisting T-Shirt Patchworking transforms a universal concept into a dreamlike fluid shape that toys with the very idea of traditional garments. Elaborate Carpets trimmed with a silky fringe, and cut in rigor lines, combine ease with firmness into distinctive and political garments.

Crazy Pullovers, named after the bags they were found in, are arranged systematically in body-conscious silhouettes hybridized with jersey in all over moon print. Candid Household Linens and trousseaus seemingly randomly paired with one another, but in reality following a precise irregular emotional pattern.

Redefined Workwear, a signature piece for Marine Serre. The iconic multi-pocket jacket, re-adapted in its fit with the addition of pockets designed especially for hand-sanitizer, created for our new reality. Sharp Tailoring, strewn with a subtle pattern of ton sur ton ‘moon lozenge’ jacquard weave binds the shifting shape of the moon with firm perfection.

CORE is a love letter to all who are feeling lost in a world of isolation. This year we found strength in our roots and imagination as a force for transformation.
