The Autumn-Winter 2020/21 collection speaks of Milan through Arthur Arbesser’s eyes: its architecture, the strong connection with the world of design and some of its eccentric characters.

From his very first day there Arbesser was fascinated by Milan, a beautiful but not obvious city, which has to be discovered through buildings and marble, tiles in entrance ways, and strong geometrics. It’s an understated city, like many of the creatives who have left a huge mark on architecture and design, often without fuss but in a solid and consistent way.

Over the years, the foreign perspective of the designer has enabled him to appreciate glimpses of, and find inspiration in, urban details, those often overlooked by Milanese people. This universe becomes Arbesser’s collection today, rigorous and ironic, graphic but not loud, clear and consistent. And the design world heads the field with the use of materials and prints studied with the designer Marco Guazzini and with friends and muses – curators, designers and artists not only among the audience but also on the runway, protagonists of the show.

The strong graphics of Arbesser find a balance in the clean silhouettes, and marble dust with wool become buckles, buttons and an all-over print.

The autumnal colour palette of warm burgundy, milk white, black velvet and different shades of brown creates a refined image. Arbesser’s signature patterns are declined in different scales with micro and macro versions in mohair jacquard sweaters and fluid printed fabrics. The metallic fabrics and printed sequins impart irony and edge.

The collaboration with the historic Milanese company Valextra, to be revealed soon, highlights another connection to the city. MARWOOLUS Marco Guazzini for Arthur Arbesser Designer Marco Guazzini invented Marwoolus® , a unique material made from a combination of Pietrasanta marble dust and wool from Prato.

It is an hommage to his places of origin and became part of Vitra Design Museum’s permanent collection in 2016. A spontaneous encounter with fashion designer Arthur Arbesser led to a rich exchange of ideas that resulted in a series of exclusively produced plates which have been photographed and printed on fabrics. The handmade accessories of the collection, such as buttons and belt buckles, are also a product of this collaboration.

Milano ha dal primo giorno affascinato Arbesser, una città bella ma non immediata, da scoprire nelle forti geometrie, nei palazzi, nei marmi e nelle piastrelle degli ingressi.

Così come i suoi protagonisti che, nell’arte e nel design, hanno lasciato un segno riconoscibile, spesso senza troppo rumore ma in maniera consistente. Gli occhi da “étranger” del designer, negli anni, hanno apprezzato scorci e trovato ispirazione in dettagli urbanistici spesso ovvi agli occhi dei Milanesi. Tutto questo diventa oggi la collezione di Arbesser, rigorosa ma ironica, grafica ma non rumorosa, chiara e consistente.

Ed il mondo del design scende in campo fisicamente con i materiali e le stampe studiate con il designer Marco Guazzini e con le amiche-muse curatrici, designer, artiste non solo tra gli spalti ma in passerella, protagoniste dello show. Le linee pulite di Arbesser trovano un equilibrio nelle silhouette sinuose e nette, polvere di marmo e lana diventano fibbie, bottoni ed una stampa all over. La calda palette colori con il bordeaux, il bianco latte accostato al velluto nero, le diverse tonalità di marrone nelle stampe ton sur ton, crea un’immagine raffinata e decisa. I pattern signature di Arbesser vengono declinati in scale diverse con versioni micro e macro che appaiono come maglie di mohair jacquard e tessuti fluidi stampati.

I capi spalla trapuntati in tessuti metallici e le paillettes ravvivano i toni, dando ironia ed edge. La collaborazione con la storica azienda milanese Valextra, che verrà presentata tra pochi giorni, sottolinea un’ulteriore connessione con la città.

MARWOOLUS Marco Guazzini per Arthur Arbesser La progettazione per Marco Guazzini è un atto ragionato, consapevole. Se l’intuizione può essere frutto di un momento felice, nel caso di questo designer al guizzo creativo di un attimo segue sempre una fase di calma e rigore, di ricerca attenta e metodica. Il risultato è un lavoro lineare, composto, di eleganza fluida ma anche di grande libertà espressiva. Accanto all’impegno di progettista nel senso più classico del termine, ha portato avanti un processo di sperimentazione alchemica.

Ed è così che è arrivato a inventare un nuovo materiale, che ha chiamato Marwoolus – dichiarando fin dal nome il senso di meraviglia per la scoperta. Marwoolus mescola la lana di Prato e il marmo di Pietrasanta – i luoghi dell’infanzia del designer. Con Arthur Arbesser si è attivato da subito un dialogo fitto e spontaneo, che ha portato alla realizzazione di una serie di lastre, prodotte in esclusiva per essere fotografate e successivamente stampate sui tessuti, così come elementi fatti a mano che diventano accessori della collezione.
