„A little darkness reflects this period, don’t you think?“ remarked Parisian couturier Alexandre Vauthier, who shipped his entire collection to London to be photographed by Alasdair McLellan. The East London photographer worked on both the look book and Vauthier’s energetic video for the show, where British grit met French glamour.
In the end, almost the entire 2021 autumn/winter collection was all black, with a dose of glass crystal and silver. This is his reaction to the gloomy summer of a never-ending pandemic.
Dark yet bold, and even demonic, from the majestic orchid leather jacket to the low-cut black crepe jersey dress for film divas.
Arguably Vauthier’s most impressive look was a sequined dress fit for the best nightclubs, with a fabulously dense feather trim by feather specialist Lemarié, who like Lesage is part of Chanel’s creative arm Paraffection. The latter recently opened the huge new 19M fabrication centre in north-east Paris, bringing together over a dozen couture suppliers.
